Just pardon my manners.

This weekend was my first time to be graced by the presence of a celebrity.  Emily, Sophie, and I were fortunate enough to hang out with mega-sensation Ray J! Yes, Ray J as in from  “For the Love of Ray J.” Luckily our experience started with a D-list one, or we might have not been so suave. A friend of ours, Aman,  does promotions or something and brought Ray J to Club Rio, in San Antonio, and he put us on the list to get in. We rollin’ VIP! When Ray J arrived Aman asked us to be waiting outside, I assume so he could see fine ass women when he got there. As he and his crew walked by his road manager said to me ‘I’ll be seeing you later.” Yessss we were soo in. They walked to the VIP section and I knew it was just matter of time until we got there too. After a while Ray J and posse went on stage to say a “yeah” and “uh” into the microphone a few times to other peoples songs. We were on the dance floor doing our own thing and I see his road manager staring at me with eyes of a hawk. It was time for me to dance on stage with all of the scantily clad girls, the moment I had been waiting for. I get up there and shake my groove thang, representing for white girls across the U S of A! His manager, Darrell, asks me to join them in the VIP section, I replied DUHHHH. It was super crowded and not that cool so I left every once in a while to hand Emily and Sophie the free Grey Goose drinks I was getting from Darrell. The night was coming to an end and Darrell asked me and my friends to meet them at their hotel for the after party. This too was a no-brainer of course! To do on site anthropological studies on the life styles of the rich and famous? These girls were so down.

We arrive at the Marriott. We take the elevator room 404, collect ourselves and give it a good knock. A man whose name we would later learn is Dre opens the door. “Is Darrell here?” We’re told he’ll be there soon and we’re invited in. Ray J is sitting on the couch amongst, dare I say slutty?, girls. When we walk in he immediately stands up and walks over to us chatting us up. “It smells like shit in here,” I tell him, glancing at the piles of barbecue they’ve picked at. The room was nothing special, nothing like I would have imagined. Where was the 5 star suite?? The girls in lingerie and trench coats linger around for a little while more and claim their limo was waiting for them downstairs. Soon they were gone. We sit around, dance a little, and chat with Ray J, Darrell and Dre all night. Emily and Ray J really hit it off, they even exchange phone numbers. This is all too much! Eventually we wander over to Darrell’s room and spend a lot of time there having great conversations about health, love, and life. When 6am rolls around Ray J calls Darrell and tells him that he wants to go to his other friends hotel, we tell him that we can give him a ride, no problem. Ray J, Darrell, Emily, Sophie, and I all pile into Sophie’s Volvo. I get in the drivers seat and bring our new friend to Staybridge Suites. All the while we’re listening to the local pop station and all singing along. Truly a night to remember. When we get there Sophie says “I think that we deserve a picture with you now,” he of course agrees and we all pose together.

Friends for life.

Moving right along…Look at my poor poor fingers!

They have been like this for months! I burned them at work and I don’t think I’m ever going to get my finger prints back. On the bright side I can be a mastermind criminal now. And on the other bright side I still have my nails.

Ooooh yes.

I have found some miraculous things at Whole Foods, and this is one of them:

Grain-sweetened chocolate covered espresso beans! I meaaaaaaaaaaaaan if that’s not everything I’ve ever wanted in my hand then I’m not sure what is. I nice little pick me up when you don’t have time for tea.

Lately I’ve been into the art of balanced meals. What an idea. Here’s a beautiful example, in my opinion.

Ezekial tortilla quesadilla with fat-free refried black beans, sauteed mushrooms, onion, spinach, and kale; roasted brussell sprouts; raw broccoli;  and sliced apple

My cousin Mandy just moved to Texas and it is such a treat, we’ve never had family down here before! She and her husband Mike have the cutest little baby Skylar around.

Makes my heart melt. Those eyes! He’s super smart too. Babies have so much potential.

…BUT AFTER COLLEGE! I have so much to say about that. Should I go there?

DOING IT!

If someone has true passions that they are good and can succeed in they should go for it right??? All I’ve been hearing lately is the opposite. Having a college degree is the golden ticket to succeeding in this world (fondly known as the USA); Why can’t it be the last resort? Right now in my life I want to go for my dreams because I KNOW that I can make it, but, before anything happens I have to get my degree. Knowing that I could be doing what I actually love is killing me softly. My mind is somewhere else. It’s unproductive for both things, passion, and school. I wish I could have the approval of the people that I need to have it from so I can go for my dreams, but instead all they see is a diploma in my future. THEN I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT OF COURSE! Is that how it actually works though? Will the big music execs care if I have my Interior Design degree? I’m going to go out on a limb and say no. I suppose it’s something to fall back onto, though. But school could also be that.

Remember those posters in elementary school? Follow Your Dreams!! I guess I didn’t read the fine print: FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS as long as your dream falls into a major at college. BE WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BE most importantly scholarly.

(Of course, I understand the importance of a degree, especially in this time of economic hardship. I’m just saying it’s not essential, for everyone) (I’m also staying in school , don’t get any cwazy ideas)

One night last week I didn’t have anything to do so I decided to bake muffins for my friends that were working hard at studio! Here they are.

Cherry Raspberry muffins! Note to self and all: whole cherries are slightly weird in muffins, opt for dried! Raspberries are possibly the best things to put in muffins though, am I riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?

Once again another week in my life flew by! This is starting to scare me. Where does time go? I suppose it’s always the same, but sometimes it passes slowly and sometimes you’re 3 weeks older. Halloween was last week and it was pretty fun. I was a baby doll, not the best outfit compared to my friend’s outfits!! They are some creative cats. I wish I had pictures to put up soo badly, so instead I will describe!

Anywayzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Right now I am drinking some Yerba Mate/Green Tea with Peppermint. Best stuff everrrrrr. I have a night of working diligently ahead of me. And maybe some nail painting we will see!

This weekend I went to a beautiful memorial service for my friend Jared Young, who passed away last weekend. We used to be good friends in my youth, during middle school and the beginning of high school. If I remember correctly we even were “boyfriend and girlfriend” for a hot minute…you know how that goes. Every time I’m at a funeral I find myself, and everyone saying “it’s so good to see you, it’s just too bad that something like this had to bring everyone together.” Preeettyy true. I wish we had celebrations of peoples lives while they were still alive, so they wouldn’t be so sad. Maybe that’s what you call a party. ??

My brother Taylor just turned 27! And my cousin Madeleine just turned 16! Everyone is getting so old. Waaahhhhhh.

Do trends ever go away? I’m pondering that idea right now. People will keep every trend alive forever I think! There will always be someone out there rocking the teased bang, poodle skirt, and torn up jeans. Right? Maybe the poodle skirt is a little extreme…I wonder.

Loreal Volume Shocking Mascara

Let me tell you something about this mascara. It is the best. Ever! My amiguita Emily introduced it to me in high school and I have been hooked ever since! I have tried to stray away and use other mascaras but nothing compares to this one. It really is VOLUME SHOCKING! Go getcha some!

The past two weeks have been a blur! School is so nuts. I have been so busy lately that I don’t even really remember my life recently, not even my poor little blog. But here I am, on my night off. Eating a delicious spinach salad with broccoli and cashews, and brown rice pasta with home made marinara. YEAH. Feels good to be chilling solo. Sophie has gone away to Arizona for the weekend so I am all alone! I don’t hate it. I’ll probably paint my toenails.

I don’t even have any pictures to tantalize you with. How sad. OK I lied. I just looked and I do have some! Here I go.

Guilty pleasures:

Richy rich! Richard is amazing. He’s the sassiest, sweetest boy eva! I love him very much.

I have been gone from Austin for I don’t even know how long and boy oh boy do I miss it! It’s been about 4 weeks. It might be safe to say that this is the longest I’ve gone without being in Austin. I miss everyone there so much. People ask me what makes Austin so amazing, since I talk so highly of it. For some reason it is a really hard question for me. What makes it special to me is probably not what other people would love about it. For instance, my family is there!! I love them and miss them so so so much. Of course not all of my family is there, two of my dear brothers have moved away. Sigh. I miss them. Also my beloved friends are there! Amazing amazing people. These are not the only things I love about Austin of course, the atmosphere there is incredible. I have intense positive energy when I’m there. Austin excites my being! I’m going there tomorrow for the whole weekend and I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!! Party time 09.

I am so happy that all the people I know are all the people I know. My family is INCREDIBLE.  And I’m talking whooole family, cousins and the whole bit. And my friends and OUTSTANDING. Sometimes I think that I am the luckiest person in the world. And I think that everyone can think that because everyone has different standards, or a different scale. I am so grateful for everyone and everything I have.

For years, a few times a week, I have dreams that my whole family and I are at my grandparent’s house in Massachusetts. Every time the house is different, but we are all just hanging out. It’s really really bizarre. I love love love love being there so much, but I want a deeper explanation for why I have had 23094892 dreams about it! I love having them and I hope they never stop! Any dream interpreters out there?

Welllllllllllllllllllllllllll I’m going to bake some raspberry cherry muffins for a special someone.

I am completely infatuated with West Texas. It is so beautiful! Completely different kind of beautiful from Vermont. It felt so amazing to be away from the city and be surrounded with delicious nature. I feel refreshed!

This is Chinati! What a place. There are a ton of these in a field in Marfa, Tx and each one is framing something.

Finger lickin’ good!

We stayed at Prude Ranch, 30 minutes or so away from Marfa. It was so beautiful, too! I wish that I had taken pictures of our cabin, it was so fun. I loved being there. Not to mention they had a great souvenir shop, big selection

Epic.

At Chinati they had art installations that were neon fluorescent lights in long rectangle rooms. Really really neat.

I listened to a lot of Patty Griffin on the bus.

I want to go back to Marfa so badly! I’m thinking spring break might be perfect.

I am so sad to learn that Leslie Cochran (the famous cross dressing sweetheart man) had a stroke and will be forever affected! They say he wont be able to live on the streets anymore. However I am so happy that he and I became friends this summer! He came into Cissi’s Market everyday so we got to be good friends. It doesn’t surprise me that his health failed him though because he is drunk all of the time. But he has a good nature, he is very funny, friendly and optimistic. I think he had a little crush on me! Or he is just very very flirtatious! At the end of the summer I went to Cissi’s one last time and he was there, but he hadn’t seen me. I was about to leave then I went back in because I wanted to say goodbye for now to him. He kissed my hand and asked if I wanted his phone number so I could call him when I get back to town. I assured him that I would see him around.

Oy. He will recover! Put him in your thoughts!

I met an amazing person this weekend! I love meeting special people that shake my world! He is very inspiring, just the person I needed and wanted to meet.

Being happy is so breezy.

Ummmmm this was the first weekend I’ve spent in San Antonio this semester and it wasn’t too bad. Baked, saw cool houses(!), danced, ate yummy things after cooking them, did my homework. I was alone for most of the weekend but I’ve come to realize that I realllllly like being alone. Yikes.  I’ll probably be single forever!

Howwwwwwwwwww cute is heeeeeeee! He’s turning 17 in December, can you believe it? I bet you can’t. He’s got a lil baby face just like me!

Hey hey hey it’s autumn! Who’s loving jackets?? This girl is. Outfits have been supa fly, hopefully this coldness will stick around.  I’ve been making it a point to wear heels/wedges/boots everyday to school this year and it’s been a doozie. One of my professors from last year asks me what my shoe and clothing choice says about feminism. I say absolutely nothing! Like wearing tall sexy shoes is a diss against women? I like to think it’s just the opposite. We’re lucky that we get to wear outrageous crazy things, men are a little more limited. Needless to say I’ve been thinking about nominating her for What Not To Wear…I don’t think she’d go.

Today Sophie and I had steamed artichokesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss mmm. Real tasty. Lil balsamic dipping sauce. Donnnt mind if I do.
